FORT COLLINS -- Researchers at Colorado State University have produced the first "test tube" horse embryo in this country.
A mare with an implanted embryo that was fertilized in the lab - in vitro fertilization - has produced a viable pregnancy. Researchers expect a foal in about eight months, CSU announced Tuesday.
Eventually, the technique could be used to impregnate champion mares that had been unable to reproduce. It also could be used to sire offspring from a stallion with a low sperm count.
