Some historical novels report so much minutiae that the story gets lost in references to obscurities such as barouche and periwig, schottische and harquebus, but Norman Zollinger spares us that bog.

In his novel, Chapultepec (Forge, 432 pages, $24.95) Zollinger tells the story of the Mexican War for Independence through the eyes and experiences of two characters caught up in those turbulent events. The action moves so swiftly that the reader is not aware that fact is packed on the pages.
