The next time you rent a car, you may be helping build a new sports arena.
Car rental agencies have tacked on surcharges in several major cities - instead of taxing local residents - as a result of city and state action, according to travel industry magazine Travel Weekly.
For example, in Tucson, Ariz. the surcharge jumped from $2.50 to $3.50 per car rental to expand facilities for the city's minor league baseball team.
In Washington, the state legislature approved an increase in the current 15% car rental surcharge to help fund a new stadium for the Seattle Mariners baseball team. Similar measures are being ...
