In 1987, three Cajun fishermen were working the wetlands south of New Orleans when they came upon a nest of baby alligators.
To their astonishment, they saw that 18 of the 25 reptiles were pure white.
It's the first time they'd ever seen a white alligator. And it turns out it was the first time anyone had ever seen a white alligator; in all of recorded history and folklore, according to zoologists, there's never even been a mention of white alligators.
White alligators are among the rarest creatures on Earth. And one of them has taken up temporary residence at the Denver Zoo.
