What started as a college journalists' April Fools' joke has erupted into a battle over the First Amendment at Mesa State College, in Grand Junction.
The editor of the college's student newspaper has been fired. The president is enraged. The paper's adviser may not be advising much longer.
Monday, students had found their edition of The Criterion renamed the Anti-Crite - the paper of ``Menstrual State College.'' It was an April Fools' edition full of sexual and scatological references and slams at administrators.
The reaction was swift and ugly.
