WASHINGTON -- Englewood-based United Artists Theatre Circuit Inc. agreed to make its theatersmore accessible to the handicapped, ending a federal probe of allegations that moviegoers with disabilities couldn't get into some theaters or were segregated to the back rows.
The Justice Department said Tuesday that United Artists, one of the country's largest movie theaterchains, agreed to modify all of its more than 420 theaters before 2001. The agreement settles a federal complaint under the Americans with Disabilities Act and a private lawsuit in California.
