WASHINGTON -- A sizable number of illegal immigrants now living in the United States entered through an airport and overstayed a visa, according to Immigration and Naturalization Service data.

Hispanics still represent a large majority of the nation's illegal population - 39% are from Mexico; 18% from Central America and 5% from South America - but 38% come from other places.

Ten percent are from Haiti, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic and elsewhere in the Caribbean. Europe and Asia each contribute 9%, and people from Canada make up 3%, as do people from Africa. The remainder are stateless or nationals ...
