Dr. Howard Wong gave up his Seattle-area radiology practice last year and moved 1,000 miles east to return to his original passions: research and teaching.
The resumption of his academic career at the University of Colorado Cancer Center in Denver lasted only 14 months before his death Tuesday of an apparent heart attack. Dr. Wong was 64.
Despite his brief tenure, CU officials praised Dr. Wong for recharting the direction of the radiation-oncology department, which develops methods to kill cancer cells with finely targeted doses of radiation.
