Colorado Rockies pitcher Bill Swift will be examined Thursday by Dr. James Andrews and, if necessary, will undergo arthroscopic shoulder surgery that day.
Swift will fly to Birmingham, Ala., today and has an appointment with Andrews at 8:30 a.m. MDT Thursday. Since making his 1996 debut June 3 and pitching 3 1/3 innings at Pittsburgh, Swift has not been able to pull his arm back to throw without feeling discomfort in the back of his shoulder.
``I don't know what it is,'' Swift said. ``I don't know where it's coming from.''
