The $60 art book that lands with a thud on the coffee table is a fixture of the publishing world. These volumes make great gifts. They can serve as weights while making pate. They even can be used to make shelves for other art books.
But more publishers, realizing that even the most avid fans only have so much cash for reading materials, are turning to smaller, more affordable works on artists and art.
