Federal Reserve policymakers left the overnight bank lending rate unchanged today at 5.25%, a bet that the U.S. economy may soon shift into a lower gear that keeps inflation in check.
The Federal Open Market Committee's stand-pat move was anticipated by many analysts.
Still, they said the Fed may have to step on the brakes by boosting borrowing costs in the weeks ahead if reports continue to pile up showing growth is accelerating.
