NEVADO DE TOLUCA PARK, Mexico -- On the boulder-strewn flanks of an extinct volcano in central Mexico, more than 2 1/2 miles above sea level, a wisp-thin man in tights and T-shirt is running through a cloud.
For more than an hour, he zigs up and zags down a steep slope, enveloped in the cold morning mist - a latter-day Hermes training on his own Mt. Olympus.
In less than a month, German Silva will run the Olympic marathon on a steamy Georgia road barely above sea level. He hopes that workouts like this in the thin, raw air above 13,000 feet will pave the way to a gold medal.
