ATLANTA -- As Carl Lewis launched himself into a stubborn wind, the cameras began flashing like hundreds of tiny stars, and everything was right again in his universe.
As he landed, the sand exploded around him, and Lewis knew he had done something good. His muscles have a long memory.
As he got to his knees, he squeezed his eyes shut and smiled. And then he lay his body down, right in the sand, an expression of pure joy.
