Hockey, always a physical game, never is quite as ferocious in regular-season play as it becomes in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Players skate harder, check with more fierceness and are willing to accept more punishment because that's what it takes to win the ultimate prize.
And that steely eyed intensity carries over to the players' personal lives.
Warren Rychel and Darren McCarty, for example, are practically next-door neighbors and close friends whose families spend time together in the summer.
