WASHINGTON -- Acupuncture, the Chinese needle therapy on the fringe of American medicine for years, received a limited endorsement from a National Institutes of Health committee that found it controls some types of pain and nausea.
''We came to the clear-cut decision that the treatment ... really did work'' for limited uses, said Dr. David J. Ramsay, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and chairman of the NIH panel.
