Dr. William H. Thomas, 37, medical director at Chase Memorial nursing home in New Berlin, N.Y., revolutionized the nursing home through his ''Eden Alternative'' six years ago. He turned it into a real home where the human spirit prevails - along with resident dogs, cats, birds and plants.
