Of all the horrors of modern warfare, chemical weapons have been among those looked upon with most terror. While there are no guarantees, death from other weapons can come mercifully quickly, but the excruciating suffering attending chemical warfare grips our imaginations.
Certainly, readers will remember our concern that Saddam Hussein might resort to chemical weapons during the Gulf War.
