NEW YORK -- Fashion trends are deep into luxury these days - rich fabrics, heavy on accessories, and simple lines that provide a perfect backdrop for jewels.
Sure to fuel the passion for serious jewelry is the Metropolitan Museum's current exhibit of ''Cartier: 1900-1939,'' which traces the history of the venerable French jewelry house's style. Cartier is among an elite few that has dictated jewelry styles for more than a century.
