To Catalina by air and sea . . . $24 to $110 California's only offshore resort--Santa Catalina Island--once took hours to reach by steamship. Faster boats replaced this romantic old craft in 1972; later, planes and helicopters started island service. New this season, catamarans and hydrofoils reduce water travel across the 26-mile-wide channel to 90 minutes.
Reservations are essential: most craft fill to capacity through September and on warm fall weekends. When you call, ask for directions to the departure point. We give summer round-trip fares in effect at our press time; both fares and schedules will change in the fall.
