Beating the holiday by two days, ''Independence Day'' arrives in theaters today. And with its arrival the worst fears of all the other makers of summer '96 movies have been realized:
This is the movie that will annihilate the competition.
''Independence Day'' is about the near-extermination of the human race by super-armed (not to mention multi-armed) aliens, and it is simply more fun than anything we have seen so far this summer.
Just when you thought all the action-movie adjectives - Explosive! Wild! Intense! - had been used up, ''Independence Day'' conjures up one more for which only this film ...
