CAVE CITY -- Cave conservationists aren't congratulating police on a recent crackdown on illegal sales of rock formations stolen from caves. They're asking what took so long.
Until a visit by the Kentucky State Police last week, anybody could walk into Big Mike's or Debbie's - two rock shops near Mammoth Cave National Park - and choose from a selection of cave formations, sold openly in violation of state law.
