The European Commission's merger authorities announced a package of merger approvals on 7 and 8 December:- Hard disk drive producers: The Commission cleared a merger between Quantum HDD and Maxtor Corp., two US companies that manufacture and sell hard disk drives to be used world wide in desktop PCs. Quantum Corp is a US-based diversified data storage company with two main activities carried out through separate businesses: its Hard Disk Drive Group (Quantum HDD) and its DLTtape & Storage Systems group.
