Life insurers reported a modest increase in U.S. individual life sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30.
Revenue from new individual life sales reached $2.1 billion in the third quarter, in terms of annualized new premium, up 5 percent from a year earlier, even though the number of policies sold fell 10 percent, to 1.4 million, according to LIMRA International, Windsor, Conn.
Officials at LIMRA say 2000 continues to look like a good year for the individual life market.
"You're still seeing pretty good growth in premiums year-to-date," said Maria Dynia, a LIMRA researcher who worked on the survey.
