Another insurer has dropped the "life" from its name and added "financial." This time it's the Allstate Life Group of Companies, in Northbrook, Ill., which recently made the name change to Allstate Financial.

Tom Wilson, president of Allstate Financial, indicated that the company wants to leverage its name recognition and "good hands" slogan among the "underserved" middle-income retirees and near-retirees, particularly those looking to retire in 10 to 15 years. Allstate is focusing on consumers aged 50 and over, who have $100,000 of investable assets, "a market that has been forgotten and ignored by other companies," Mr. Wilson said.
