Dec. 13--FORT WORTH, Texas--City officials somewhat reluctantly compromised with TXU Electric & Gas on Tuesday, agreeing to raise gas rates by about 3 percent -- a change that will add about 95 cents to the typical monthly residential gas bill.
The new rates will take effect immediately under an ordinance approved 9-0 last night.
Several council members, including Fort Worth Mayor Kenneth Barr and Councilwoman Wendy Davis, were hesitant to approve the deal, after learning that TXU sends out past-due notices 15 calendar days after a customer's meter is read. They thought TXU should wait longer.
