Article: Houston-Based Pipeline Firm Gets Approval to Build Gas Line through New Jersey.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Dec. 14--Transcontinental Pipeline Co. can go ahead with its plan to build 90 miles of natural gas pipeline through 10 New Jersey counties, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission ruled yesterday.

But before it approves the biggest part of the multi-stage, $529 million project, the commission said it wants to see signed contracts from customers saying they will use the new facility. And it wants to see the contracts in four months.

The FERC order says Transcontinental, or Transco, can build four miles of new pipeline in Warren County and 5.5 miles of new line in Middlesex and Union counties, and begin operating the lines in November 2001. The ...
