Dec. 13--When Fred Kanter was born in a Manhattan hospital in January 1945, he was bundled up and driven home in his father's Oldsmobile.
One of Fred Mackerodt's first cars was a 1948 four-door sedan in two-tone cream and gray. It had been his father's Oldsmobile.
Richard Lentinello remembers a 1953 model with a space-age "rocket V-8." It was his father's Oldsmobile.
"It was an engineering marvel that put Oldsmobile on the map," said Lentinello, executive editor of Hemmings Motor News, a Bennington, Vt., parts catalog for classic car buffs.
