The Streamwood village board gave a green light for VoiceStream Wireless Corp. to replace the existing cell phone tower with a new one.
Work on the 105-foot cell phone tower is expected to begin within 60 to 90 days.
VoiceStream is a public radio and cellular telephone carrier company, which provides signals for cell phone users and police communications for the village.
The company asked the village earlier this year about locating an antenna on the current tower behind the Streamwood police department.
