Thugs aligned with the ruling Awami League in Bangladesh have gone after a Muslim newspaper, burning its publications and threatening to beat up its reporters, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
Several prominent journalists and editors of the Bengali-lan-
guage newspaper Inqilab were arrested and later released on bail after the newspaper published a parody of the national anthem.
Outside the capital, Dhaka, a local Awami League official called on party supporters to break the bones of journalists after newspapers reported that flood aid had been skimmed to line the pockets of corrupt officials.
