LOCAL WOMAN BECOMES PITTSBURGH'S FIRST
MATCHED UNRELATED BONE MARROW DONOR
PITTSBURGH, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday, a Central Blood Bank donor became the first local, matched unrelated bone marrow donor, as part of the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
A 31-year-old man with leukemia from Rochester, N.Y., received the donor's bone marrow at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis later that evening.
The bone marrow harvest was performed at the Montefiore Hospital Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Program of the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Dr. Richard K. Shadduck, head of the program and the hospital's ...
