INTIMATE APPAREL: Anything But Sleepy
NEW YORK -- Mass merchants are taking a very conservative approach to intimate apparel, focusing on pared-down merchandise that is functional, yet styled with an updated flair.
On recent visits to intimate apparel departments at Westchester branches in New York, of Caldor, J.C. Penney, Sears, Marshalls and Woolworth's, it was apparent that volume retailers have not relinquished the duster coats they built their businesses on. Still, they are updating their assortments in every category of innerwear.
