MSPCA REPORTS SURPLUS OF HOMELESS ANIMALS

BOSTON, July 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) today released staggering reports on the number of animals surrendered to its shelters last month and issued pleas to pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered.

The MSPCA's animal shelter network -- located in seven communities throughout the state -- received 1,958 kittens and 1,058 cats during the month of June. The Society also reported that 984 dogs and 200 puppies were received during the same 30-day period and that shelter personnel were able to place only 10 percent of these animals.
