After a deal was clinched on the long-stalled European Company Statute at the Nice Summit on 8 December (see European Report No 2552), the French Presidency has decided to call a snap meeting of EU Social Affairs Ministers on 20 December to rubber stamp the accord. Although the French Minister expressed a wish to include the framework Directive on information and consultation of employees on the agenda, the move was blocked by some delegations. The Presidency needed the support of all delegations for the meeting, because the convocation does not comply with an internal Council rule, which requires at least 14 days' notice.EU Social Affairs Ministers are expected to reach a ...
