WASHINGTON, Dec. 15-Residents of Ohio paid $3.9 billion more to the federal government in taxes than their state received in federal spending last year, according to a study sponsored by Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, D-N.Y., and conducted by Harvard University.
The study, which analyzes the balance between federal tax payments and federal spending in all 50 states, shows Ohio is one of 19 so-called "donor states" that pay more in taxes than they recoup in spending. Most states, 31 of them, received more in federal spending last year than they paid in taxes.
