The 9mm 115-grain JHP is one of the most controversial handgun loads ever used in police and defensive scenarios. In fact, of any revolver or pistol caliber, the 9mm caliber itself has the widest variety of opinions of effectiveness among street cops and hardcore handgunners.
The 9mm is the one cartridge that absolutely proves load selection is more important than caliber selection. In nearly 500 shootings, the 9mm 115-grain +P and +P+ JHPs have produced 90 percent 1-shot stops. In comparison, in over 600 shootings, the standard pressure 9mm 115-grain JHPs have been 82 percent effective. The 115-grain FMJ hardball is effective just 70 percent of the time.
