Hunting trophy whitetails in Old Mexico
Passive banter helped ward off the morning chill as December's Sonora sun slowly illuminated distant ridgetops. With a broken mix of English and Spanish, my Mexican guide, David, and I did our best to understand one another. Cedar City, Utah, gunmaker Lex Webernnick, who was along to help spot deer and could converse with David fluently, helped fill in the blanks. Though our conversations may have sounded confusing, our common goal was not: find the largest Coues' deer buck in all Mexico.
