After a slow summer, the arrival of fall has been accompanied by a flurry of IP-PBX announcements; Avaya, NEC, Fujitsu and Intecom announced new IP-based products, enhancements and upgrades for the future. While the market for IP-based PBXs remains in its infancy, global shipments this year will exceed 500,000 stations, about a 500 percent increase over 1999. This represents less than 1 percent of worldwide station shipments, but in the next 10 years IP phones will become the standard desktop terminal.
