Edina coach Curt Giles said he didn't see it. Elk River coach Tony Sarsland was inclined to look the other way. That left it up to Elks forward Kelly Plude to explain how he got so wide open for a breakaway goal that keyed Elk River's 5-3 victory over the Hornets on Tuesday.
"I have a move I always use," Plude said, grinning. "It never fails."
The move involved Plude and defenseman Zach Potter battling for position near the Edina blue line. They were jabbing each other with their sticks one moment; the next, Plude took a pass and streaked toward the net uncontested while Potter was on the ice holding his leg.
