The National Partnership for Reinventing Government in Washington, D.C. has awarded the 2000 Hammer Award to the Secretary's Welfare-to-Work Decennial Project team: Goodwill Industries International, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the U.S. Department of Labor.
The award recognizes the agencies for work to recruit a labor force for the 2000 Census and to facilitate the hiring of welfare-to-work recipients. By doing so, the agencies saved the federal government an estimated $1.4 million per month in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and other government support.
