This twenty-fourth volume in the Pushcart Prize series collects sixty-two pieces from forty-seven presses: thirty poems, twenty-two stories, five essays, and five memoirs (the distinction between essay and memoir is new to this edition). The Pushcart claim to represent the "best of the small presses" always prompts my skepticism: suffice to say that the series draws primarily upon writing that reflects the norms of literary quarterlies and creative-writing programs.
