Foreign oil companies are scrambling to safeguard their assets in Kazakstan as President Nursultan Nazarbaev - spurred into action by the feeling his country has shared too large a chunk of its oil riches with the West - is forging ahead with his campaign to re-establish the government's grip over the oil business.
