A female cottontail rabbit mama endeared herself to Faye Smithwick in a way that few of us will ever experience with a wild critter.
The rabbit tended to use Smithwick's deck as a pathway through her back yard and thus was fairly familiar with human trappings, Smithwick said. ``She would stretch out her body like a cat and nap there, too,'' she added.
Then one day Smithwick noticed a cleared area in her snapdragon bed on one side of the deck. She kept watch on the area and realized the rabbit was nesting there. Eventually mama delivered four youngsters.
