NORFOLK -- Old Dominion University's Board of Visitors on Monday gave President James V. Koch a whopping raise: 25.7 percent.

The raise brings Koch's base salary to $240,583. It also includes a one-time bonus of $9,583, bringing the total compensation to $250,166. Rector Edward L. Hamm Jr. said there was no change in Koch's already established deferred compensation package, funds that Koch will receive upon leaving office. That account will grow by $50,000 this year.

The board characterized Koch's performance as ``exceptional.''
