EDENTON -- Saving a small silvery fish known for making babies by the millions in shallow creeks is the focus of a habitat preservation project here that is the first of its kind in the state.
A $3.28 million grant from the state's Clean Water Management Trust Fund will be used to buy 1,885 acres along three creeks that empty into Edenton Bay and serve as prime spawning habitat for herring.
