SOUTHERN SHORES -- The Blue Sky program started by the town of Southern Shores nearly four years ago is making a quiet comeback, says Blue Sky Foundation Chairman Joe Thompson.
The program has just received a $225,000 grant from the state and is in the process of hiring an executive director. The original goals of Blue Sky were to research, develop and promote hazard-resistant construction through private and public partnerships.
The program was endorsed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other federal and state agencies interested in encouraging storm damage mitigation efforts. More than a dozen ...
