In reply to recent letters to the editor accusing those of us who live in Ghent of not caring about the homeless, let me make it clear: Ghent and its civic league, the Ghent Neighborhood League (GNL), are not unsympathetic toward the homeless.
Our problem is that Ghent has a disproportionate number of homeless service providers, which attracts an inordinate number of the homeless to our neighborhood.
Think about it - would any other neighborhood like six different soup kitchens? Or, during the fall/winter months, have six different churches participating in the NEST program?
At most, other neighborhoods ...
