THEY SAIL from Poland, China, Indonesia, spending months at sea on colossal cargo ships. They carry coal, frozen chickens, fertilizer. They travel the world.
They cross oceans to drop anchor in our back yard.
And they want to go to Wal-Mart.
For many, a day near Norfolk's docks is the only glimpse they get of the United States.
Some call cabs or catch rides to go shopping. Some seek bars - with disco balls and karaoke machines. Some find God.
A few never set foot on land.
