Norfolk Southern Corp. plans to suspend train service over its portion of Conrail Inc. for 24 hours as part of the June 1 operational takeover.
Norfolk Southern also announced a deal Tuesday that will allow it to offer direct service into New York City for bulk products.
The suspension of service ``will allow for smooth and safe transitions for systems, personnel and equipment,'' according to Norfolk Southern's latest Implementation Update, a weekly newsletter published on its Web site (www.nscorp.com) and distributed to employees and customers.
