NORFOLK -- Two rare Gelada baboons will be introduced to the members of the Virginia Zoological Society at a Breakfast with the Animals on Saturday at the Virginia Zoo.
The baboons explored their new spacious outdoor habitat Wednesday while guards stood at four corners, lest the furred primates try to vault the electric fences confining them. They didn't. The fences passed the test. Then the Geladas went back to the temporary concealment of their holding area.
The baboons will meet the public in July at the grand opening of their habitat. Meanwhile, let me advise the members right now not to look the baboons in the eye ...
