Today Filipinos all over the world will celebrate the 100th year of the Philippine declaration of independence from Spain. For Filipino Americans, 1998 has added significance. The year also marks a century of Filipino-American relations, for as the Spanish epoch ended, the American era began.
The 100-year Philippine-American relationship started off on the wrong foot.
